My sister & I recently had the opportunity to travel to Marquette MI. During our time there we wanted to explore all that Marquette had to offer – including, it’s waterfalls!

11 Best Waterfalls In Marquette

Marquette is the perfect place for adventurers to explore. There are so many waterfalls in Marquette that it can be hard to decide which one you should visit first. So I made it easy for you, here’s a list of 11 must see waterfalls in Marquette, MI as well as nearby:

1. Yellow Dog Falls

Located in the Ottawa National Forest, Yellow Dog Falls is outside of Marquette but well worth the drive! These falls are known for the large bolder that sits in the center & how easy they are to reach from the trail.

2. Frohling Falls

Frohling Falls is one of the more interesting waterfalls in Marquette MI. It lies on an otherwise calm and sandy river that winds through lush forest before pouring down deep chutes to create this serene scene. It can only reach by hiking for hours through rough terrain.

3. Dead River Falls

Looking for a quick but fun walk/hike? Check out Dead River Falls in Marquette, Michigan. It’s just shy of 2 miles long and it has an awesome waterfall, surrounded by trees & a peaceful atmosphere.

The parking lot has easy access to the trailhead & has a porta-potty. Speaking of trailhead, this waterfall in Marquette MI starts straight up a gravel hill & once you get to the top you will see a staircase on the left side leading to the falls.

4. Little Garlic Falls

The Little Garlic River and waterfall near Marquette, MN is an 8 mile hike along the banks of a spectacular river under an abundance of beautiful pines.

The route meanders both on land as well as through water with multiple viewpoints giving access to sandstone bedrock. At its turnaround point there’s also reward: A small but picture-perfect cascading waterfall!

5. Morgan Falls

Morgan Falls is one of many waterfalls in Marquette MI. This waterfall it has all the charm without few crowds. There are two waterfalls; both scenic yet serene at different times during each day.

Morgan Falls located 2 miles south of Marquette & is easy to get to, but you will be driving down a rather rough road. Some prefer to walk or bike it if they are unsure that their vehicle can handle it.

6. Carp River Falls

When visiting this waterfall you’ll be greeted with the loud noise of 21 feet drop as you enter Morgan Creek. The falls is not well marked, but it’s just half mile long and people follow rushing water to get there.

If possible, visit both Carp River Falls and Morgan Falls (see above) in one day for faster navigation through this area – saving time in return might make your trip that much more enjoyable.

7. Reany Falls

This waterfall in Marquette MI is located right off the parking lot of Dead River Falls & can be easily missed if you aren’t looking for it!

Tucked away in the trees, watch for the small bridge going to and from the parking lot – Reany Falls runs right under this bridge. Follow it up to Reany Creek & you will immediately feel like you are in the Pacific Northwest!

8. Pinnacle Falls

Pinnacle Falls is a beautiful and impressive waterfall located on the Yellow Dog River, just south west of Big Bay. The falls crashes down over 200 feet deep, and has an impressive rock pinnacle on its right side facing downward like an eager face looking up at you in wonderment or surprise!

9. Trestle Falls

The Trestle Falls is one of the most impressive waterfalls in Marquette County, MI. The steel train tracks act as your pathway to an adventure below, where you’ll get a chance for some great pictures and hike down alongside this beautiful natural site!

10. Warner Falls

Located just outside of Marquette is Warner Falls. This small roadside waterfall, which can be accessed and features an impressive 20 foot plunge before it flows on through winding paths alongside warner creek into something truly unique for any visitor’s experience!

11. Forty Foot Falls

Forty Foot Falls also known as Cliff Falls is one of the lesser known waterfalls in Marquette MI. The falls are long and gentle with one exception: it has steeper sections that make for some pretty cool pictures!

What is the Largest Waterfall in Michigan

Located in Paradise, Michigan – Tahquamenon Falls is 50 feet tall & 200 feet wide at it’s upper falls. Not only is it the largest waterfall in Michigan but it also one of the most accessible & wonderful to visit during any season!

Since Tahquamenon Falls is located in a Michigan State Park – there is a fee. Visit Michigan.gov to check out fees or purchase a parks pass online.

Can You Swim In Dead River Falls?

In the summer, Dead River Falls is a popular place to swim & rock jump. What makes it especially great is how easy it is to get to these falls (see #3 above for more details on this waterfall in Marquette MI)

Where Are The Most Waterfalls In Michigan?

The Upper Peninsula has the most waterfalls by far – check out this map

They will primarily be found in the upper portion of the peninsula due to Lake Superior being located along this portion of the state of Michigan. You certainly won’t run out of waterfalls to visit while you are visiting the UP!
